Recent advances in quantum field theory in curved spacetime

We review some recent advances in connection with the energy-momentum tensor and the semiclassical Einstein equations, symmetries and anomalies, effective actions, the renormalization group and other questions in the context of quantum field theory in curved spacetime. Extended theories of electromagnetism and their impact on laboratory experiments and as-
